Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMDR, and how is it different from "talk therapy"?
Traditional therapy often focuses on talking through your thoughts and feelings. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specialized tool that helps your brain and body actually process memories and triggers so they no longer feel so intense. Think of it as "unsticking" a memory that has been trapped in your nervous system to removing shrapnel from an open wound so that healing can take place. Many clients find they achieve results with EMDR more efficiently than with talk therapy alone.

How many sessions will I need?
Because I use an individualized approach, the length of therapy varies. However, my goal is not for you to be in therapy indefinitely. Whether we are doing deep EMDR work or navigating a specific life transition, we will regularly check in on your progress and adjust our frequency based on your needs.

I’m a new parent—what if my baby wakes up or I can’t find childcare for our session?
As a perinatal specialist, I completely understand the reality of life with a little one. You are absolutely welcome to have your baby with you during our session (feeding, rocking, or sleeping). If a sudden "baby emergency" happens, we will simply handle it with grace. This is a judgment-free space.

Why should I choose an out-of-network provider?
Working outside the constraints of insurance allows us total freedom over your care. We don't have to provide a diagnosis to a third party, we aren't limited to a specific number of sessions, and I am able to maintain a smaller caseload. This means I can be more responsive and provide the highly specialized, high-touch care that this season of your life deserves.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes.Telehealth is just as effective as in-person sessions, especially for EMDR and somatic work. For many of my clients in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the convenience of not having to commute—especially when navigating fertility treatments or new parenthood—actually makes therapy more effective because it reduces the stress of "getting there."

What is your cancellation policy?
I value our time together and keep my caseload small to ensure I can be fully present for you. I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations to prevent a late cancellation fee. However, I understand that life with kids (and pregnancy) can be unpredictable, so I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible if something comes up.
